For all your remodeling and renovation needs! Kitchen, bathroom, dining room, office, & bar!
Glen Huxtable is a quality craftsman with 31 years experience in the home improvements and remodeling business. A high level of skill and attention to detail has satisfied over 1000 customers. While the main focus of my business is in kitchen and bathroom renovations , I will take on any interior finishing job. Home offices, elegant dining rooms, rec room bars, kids furniture are projects that I offer a creative touch at. As a custom cabinetmaker I build high quality solutions to your needs. While this may sound expensive, my pricing is very competitive with the Big Box store’s off the shelf cabinets; you get custom sizes and accessories at an attractive price. Of course the key to a successful project is taking all those individual parts and having the carpentry skills to install them. I take a lot of pride in installing the ceramic tile on the floor and walls, the complex 3 piece crown mold treatments, custom lighting, even the new drywall that will complement my fine cabinetmaking.
Although this website has attracted interest from across the province of Ontario, down into states like Ohio, even one query from Japan!! I must restrict my customer base to the London area. Some of the outlying towns I service are: St Thomas , Grand Bend, Strathroy, Woodstock, Ingersoll. Generally I’ll travel up to an hour from London Ontario to get to the job site. One of the horror stories I hear a lot involves a contractor who promises the customer a completion date and hasn’t got a chance of meeting that obligation honestly. I believe the single most important quality a contractor should possess is RELIABILITY! For me the key is performing all required tasks myself– no outside sub contractor, no helper or laborer. I design it – I sell it- I build-it – I install it- I paint it- I clean up- I get paid well for it! This way I have full control over the schedule and the quality. If there is a problem I just need to look in the mirror for the culprit!( doesn’t happen much- I can’t afford it).
The remodeling business is a physically demanding job, but I intensely enjoy standing back at the end of the day and seeing the look on my customer’s happy face. I built my first set of kitchen cabinets 27 years ago using a radial arm saw and a hammer. My cabinetmaking business has expanded to the point where I now have a very well equipped shop that allows me to turn out product quickly and accurately. Times were the carpenter building the house would set up a saw in the garage and stick frame the cabinets, the painter would finish on site. To satisfy the modern day customer requires a skilled cabinetmaker to shop build the kitchen cabinets (or bathroom, wall unit, etc.) using the latest tools and spraying a cabinet lacquer. People are willing to spend substantial money on home improvements and I approach each job with dedication and hard work.
Bathroom remodeling is a way for the homeowner to maximize real estate value. No bathroom will last forever. Most people realize that the key to successful bathroom renovations is quality material expertly installed. Water and the ravages of time have a nasty way of making showers leak, shower doors falling apart, vanities destroyed, etc etc. Take the bathtub, for instance. A plain American Standard white tub (approx $180) can be made to stand out by careful ceramic tile installation.Or for a high-end look choose cultured marble, available in custom shower sized sheets in a wide variety of onyx, marble or granite looks.Whirlpool tubs were once an expensive upgrade. Not any more! Nothing makes a greater first impression than a corner whirlpool tub surrounded by creative ceramic tiling. I can design custom cabinets to fit your space with style. In bathroom renovating jobs I highly recommend thermofoil doors- they are nearly indestructible. A vanity can see a lot of water splashes. Where a wood door could swell and fail a thermofoil door wont. An assortment of styles and colours (including wood grains) can be seen by visiting my supplier’s website www.thermovision.ca
Dining room remodeling can add a touch of elegance to your home. I like to go beyond the standard custom woodworking treatments you see in a builder’s home and install unique 3 piece crown mould. As well full wainscoting on walls can get as rich as you desire. Built-up chair rail sitting atop raised panels and panel mould blend up to a dentil mould detail not often seen anymore. Think about the formal dining room that stands out the most from others. It was likely the custom trim details that caught your eye. I have done some projects that had coffered ceilings; some as simple as flat routed mdf trim arranged in a grid to multiple deep beams with crown moulding inset into each box that meets full panelled walls. And what are dining room renovations without gleaming hardwood flooring? To really go the extra mile I can also offer etched glass murals, bevelled glass assemblies inset into solid wood french doors, custom wood valences to cover the tops of your window treatments, ambiance and display light effects.
Custom furniture is another specialty of mine. Since these pieces are one of a kind, anything you can imagine I can produce. Want a bed that your kid will want to play in? Something with built-in drawers, shelving for displays ,secret compartments? Auto themes like Ferrari race cars, London double-decker buses, Thomas tank engines, castles, canopy beds are all popular. I once did a project that I spent a day at the junkyard scrounging wiper blades, switches, grill, turn signals and turn stalk, steering wheel, hub caps, gauges ..well you get the picture! Tv cabinets or full blown entertainment centres with custom or matching finishes are available. Pocket doors hide huge projection tvs. Speakers can be hidden behind custom grills. Wall units that have glass shelving and top down lights to show off your treasures can be accented with wood doors and fancy glass treatments- bevel glass clusters, stained glass, sandblasted glass patterns, and can house stereo equipment. If you are doing a kitchen cabinet renovation, I can also build a matching table.
Office remodeling is one area of my expertise. Home offices can be a corner of a room or separated area of the house drywalled and soundproofed. L shaped or U shaped purpose built computer desks will make your work time more efficient. They can incorporate keyboard trays, cd racks in drawers, file drawers, overhangs on the worktop for clients to use as desk space. A well placed wall unit can provide easy access to important reference material with the upper area used to display awards, trophies, pictures, etc. In a formal office setting, reception desks are typically the first thing a client sees. Make a bold statement of your company’s success by using clever design with quality materials – granite countertops, stainless steel verticals, etched mirrors and glasswork with your logo, curved elements, halogen downlighting, clearcoated natural maple cabinetry. French doors with tightly bevelled glass lites for privacy lead into the conference room enhanced with custom woodworking details. Custom glasswork can be hung on the wall or be an actual room separator. Conference tables done in matching materials will let your clients know about your corporate stature. Office renovations can add value to your business.
Custom bars can turn dull rec rooms into gathering places. From the traditional wood cabinetry to contemporary sleek styling , I can build whatever you want. Standup bars with the typical brass rails to set your feet on are very popular. A thick 5 inch solid oak bar rail invites you to lean and drink! Custom countertops flanked by fluted columns and stylish rosettes make the bar a statement of your taste . A granite counter top with undermount sink has a rock solid feel while laminate counter tops offer a wide range of colour at a more affordable price. A bar fridge built into the lower cabinetry is almost a necessity; some customers prefer a separate wine cooler with glass doors. Careful attention to lighting will set the right mood: multiple pot lights on a dimmer allow for the most flexibility, halogen tracks are a great way to show off individual display type items.
